Outreach program "Popularizing science and to inculcate scientific attitude among school children through entertaining, colourful and magical chemistry experiments and experiments covering fundamental scientific knowledge"

Following experiments have been conducted at the school under the guidance of faculties Dr Debasis Behera and Mr. Sumant Pradhan (1) The pH of acidic and alkaline solutions are detected using litmus paper, (2) Evolution of hydrogen gas by dissolving daily-use aluminium foil in protic acid, (3) Direct observation of the flammability of oxygen and hydrogen in real time, Fun experiments include: (4) Elephants Toothpaste; (5) application of chemical to make an invisible letter visible. Students pursuing B.Sc. Hons. (final year) and M.Sc. were included in the extension activity to conduct the experiments in the school. Through this programme, our students explained the fundamentals of acidic, alkaline, and neutral pH solutions and demonstrated the litmus test and many other experiments to Class 6 and 7 school students of village Salad. Although class 7 students had read in their science books about acidic and alkaline solutions, but they had never participated in such real-time

Extension Activity "To create awareness on safe drinking water and evaluation of pH and TDS of the drinking water at village salad” at the periphery of Sambalpur.

Activity focused on a social issue that is creating an awareness on safe drinking water and testing the pH and TDS of the water that the villagers were consuming. This programme is started with slogans on safe drinking water in the village Salad by our staff and students. Following the rally-based slogans, A meeting was conducted with villagers and schoolchildren. Our students explained the effects of hard water and dirty drinking water on the body during that meeting. A pH and TDS meter was used to show how to measure the pH and TDS of drinking water. Lastly, pamphlets are given out to improve their situation and raise awareness of the need of drinking healthy water. Home to home visit by our student to check the water quality and to distribute the pamphlets.

DAE-BRNS theme meeting and Workshop on "Societal applications of Nuclear Science and Technology and R & D Opportunities in Nuclear Science" on 23-25 November 2023.

At this DAE-BRNS theme meeting, about twenty scientists from the Department of Atomic Energy, the Institute of Physics, and the Bhaba Atomic Research Centers attended to discuss all related fields of science, including chemistry, physics, botany, biotechnology, and zoology. A summary of BARC's bioscience activities, applications of radioisotopes in health care, agriculture and industry, nuclear sciences, research reactors and particle accelerators and their uses in nuclear analytical techniques, interactions between radiation and matter and radiation safety in radiological laboratories, R&D activities at the Institute of Physics (IOP), and nuclear physics research using pellentin in BARC's condensed matter physics were among the topics they covered. They raised awareness on BRNS Activities and Project Funding and Utilization of BARC Facilities for Collaboration with Universities through UGC-DAE-CSR Scheme. They donated GM Counter and NaI (TI) Detector instruments to the university after raising awareness of radiation detection and measurements and conducted practical with these instruments. A poster session was held to discuss BARC/DAE technologies.
