About

Dr. Priyankar Chandra has recently joined the School of Geography, Gangadhar Meher University, in July 2024 as an assistant professor (guest faculty). Before joining this institution, he served as a visiting faculty member for almost one year in the geography department of Bankura Sammilani College in Bankura, West Bengal. Dr. Chandra earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in geography from Banaras Hindu University. He qualified for the UGC NET-JRF (National Eligibility Test) in geography in 2014. His research interests mainly revolve around urban geography and encompass a wide range of themes, including urbanization, urban development, contemporary urban issues, urban landscape dynamics, city-surrounding relations, and also development geographies. Besides, his involvement in collaborative research embraces diversified research areas such as urban climate and environmental geomorphology. Altogether, so far, he has six publications in the journals of national/international repute. He attended and presented research papers at several national and international seminars and conferences. In addition, he is a life member of three prestigious professional bodies of geography in the country. Currently, he is actively and passionately engaged in research as well as teaching activities. His academic motto is to practice and propagate critical, innovative thinking and creative, effective writing in general and geographical imagination, spatial thinking and spatial awareness in particular.
