 Dr. Meera Swain is an Associate Professor at the School of Anthropology, Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur. She obtained her M.Phil and  Ph.D. in Anthropology from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. She has been in the teaching profession for more than 33 years.  Prior to joining the Gangadhar Meher University in 2022, she worked in various government colleges as Junior Lecturer, as visiting faculty in Women’s Studies of Utkal University, as Lecturer and Head, Department of Women’s Empowerment, NISWASS, Bhubaneswar and as Lecturer in Anthropology in Central University of Odisha, Koraput. Dr Swain has authored two books; “SAORA KINSHIP” and “ KULI: A tribe of Odisha”.  She is one of the editors of the book “Knowledge for Actions: A Treatise in Anthropology” and “GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERMENT-Workspace Safety and Wellbeing”. Dr Swain edited the essays on “GODS, KINGS AND CASTE” written by Professor (Dr.) L.K. Mahapatra. Her research interest includes Socio-cultural Anthropology of tribal and fisherman community and Gender Studies. She presented her research findings in various national and international conferences and has more than thirty publications to her credit in national and international journals. Dr. Swain worked as a Master Trainer, HIV/AIDS Counseling under the Global Fund to Fight AIDS,TB & Malaria. She took active part in organizing more than eight national and state level seminars, various community awareness programmes, participated and presented papers in different international conferences held in UK, China, and Thailand. She is Life Member of the Indian Red Cross. Two scholars have already received their M.Phil degree while one scholar has been awarded Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Swain
